Defaults of the Noteworthy
Burt Reynolds
1936-_ , Movie actor, filed for bankruptcy in 1996 in Florida after his much publicized divorce from Loni Anderson. He had more than $10 million in debt. His dinner theater was foreclosed on by the mortgage lender and his ranch was sold. Since his bankruptcy he has continued to act in movies and was awarded the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in the film Boogie Nights.
My decision to file bankruptcy was not an easy one. I was worried about the consequences of going through with it but truly felt like it was my only option. I retained an attorney in March of 2006, paid him in full, and then waited two months for results. I was not able to reach him by phone or in-person. I left countless messages but to no avail. By the time I called Cutler & Associates I was two months behind in my payments (because “my” attorney told me to stop making payments), out of money (since I paid him in full), and stressed out and frustrated beyond belief.
I found Cutler & Associates online, read a review about it posted by a former client and called. Stuart Swanson, one of the attorneys of the firm, answered the phone and listened patiently while I told him about my attempt to file bankruptcy, the phone calls I was receiving from my creditors, and my frustration with the whole process. It was easy to set up an appointment – Stuart met with me after hours due to my work and school schedule. He explained to me, in great detail, what I will have to do and how the process works. I left his office feeling 100% better about my situation. He always returned my calls, accommodated my schedule, told me about all pros and cons of filing bankruptcy, and was supportive throughout the whole process. I had to contact him a couple of times after my case was closed, and he always responded in a timely and courteous fashion. He handled the whole case himself from beginning to end, and I felt like I had his full undivided attention even though I know that I was not his only client.
After my previous experience with the attorney who took my money and did absolutely nothing, I was at the “end of my rope”. My experience with Stuart Swanson and the firm was outstanding. He treated me with respect, was honest about the process, and truly represented my interests. I had a chance to meet David Cutler who was also very professional and treated me as a valuable client.
I would definitely recommend this firm to those who are considering filing bankruptcy and would like to have someone on their side.
